'House of Gucci' true story: The real people of Gucci case Los Angeles Times

Hayek, who plays Auriemma in “House of Gucci,” is married to François-Henri Pinault, CEO of Kering, the luxury group that currently owns Gucci. According to a recent story in the Hollywood Reporter, it was Pinault who gave the production permission to use the Gucci name and access to the company’s archives. His father, Aldo, had given 10% of his 50% stake in the company to his three sons, allocating 3.3% to each of them. When Paolo aligned his interest with Maurizio’s 50%, he tipped the scales to begin the process that ultimately led to the family no longer owning the company. “House of Gucci” will surely do its part to burnish the brand, even as it gleefully airs two decades’ worth of dirty (but still utterly fabulous) laundry.

Ridley Scott's wickedly decadent drama is now available to stream from within the comforts of your own home.

While the movie only implies that Patrizia forged the signatures, a longtime assistant to Rodolfo testified that she in fact committed the act. The film ends with a card that carefully acknowledges the company’s current leadership, and also notes that it currently has an estimated value of $60 billion — far beyond the scale of the company during the time depicted in the story. Yet “House of Gucci” can only strive to capture the larger-than-life aspects of the Gucci family and those in their circle. The film focuses on the story of Maurizio Gucci and his wife, Patrizia, as her ambitions to be part of a world of extreme wealth and power lead her to orchestrate his 1995 murder. Played by Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, Patrizia and Maurizio are part of a constellation of characters in the movie, which also includes Maurizio’s father, Rodolfo (Jeremy Irons), his uncle Aldo (Al Pacino) and cousin Paolo (Jared Leto), among others. Although it too focuses on an outsider who makes the mistake of fancying themself an insider, “House of Gucci” doesn’t have that earlier movie’s blistering nihilism.

Aldo Gucci (Al Pacino)

Hired by Rodolfo Gucci after De Sole stood up to Aldo Gucci in a meeting, De Sole would rise to be CEO of Gucci America in 1984 and become CEO of Gucci Group from 1994 to 2004. Among his many endeavors since leaving Gucci, Ford directed the Academy Award-nominated feature films “A Single Man” and “Nocturnal Animals.” In a recent interview with GQ, he spoke about the “House of Gucci” movie project. Long wanting to be a designer himself, Paolo endlessly fought to use his own name on products, attempting to leverage the Gucci branding for his own ends. Maurizio Gucci would go from reluctantly joining his family firm to ruthlessly ousting his relatives to enact the vision he was convinced would save the company. His lavish spending and lackluster management left the company in a precipitous position when he finally relinquished control. There is, for one, no “Godfather” equivalent of Patrizia Reggiani, and no one in “House of Gucci” who can ultimately contend with the force of nature that is Lady Gaga.

When Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga), an outsider from humble beginnings, marries into the Gucci family, her unbridled ambition begins to unravel the family legacy and triggers a reckless spiral of betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately…murder. As in any slick bio-fiction, characters have been excised, timelines fudged, perspectives distorted. And yet, even amid the inevitable simplifications and exaggerations, it all coheres, with a kind of implacably grim logic, into an extended cautionary tale about how family and business shouldn’t mix. Patrizia devises a plot to obtain controlling interest in Gucci by acquiring some of Aldo and Paolo's shares (the other 50%). Aldo introduces Patrizia to his eccentric son Paolo, who aspires to be a designer within Gucci despite his lack of talent. Aldo helps Maurizio and a terminally ill Rodolfo reconcile shortly before the latter's death. Rodolfo writes Maurizio back into his will but fails to sign the document attesting him the 50% interest in Gucci shares before he dies, so Patrizia forges Rodolfo's signature on Rodolfo's updated testament. Scott wanted to make a film about the Gucci dynasty after acquiring rights to Forden's book in the early 2000s.

The film also received a 2022 Oscar nomination for best makeup and hairstyling. Directed by Ridley Scott, "House of Gucci" is a biographical drama about the Gucci family, their fashion empire, and the shocking murder that upended their lives. I've lived in LA for the past few years but had never dined at Cecconi's. Tom Ford first came to Gucci in 1990, when the American-born designer moved to Milan.

Yes, House of the Owl Season 1 is available to watch via streaming on Hulu. While it might have been power lunch hour, few people were in suits or business casual. Two very glamorous older women — perfectly coiffed hair, gold jewelry, Jackie O sunglasses — sat across from us. We now live in a hybrid world, but the "power lunch" is due for a comeback.

But, one day, a gruesome occurrence causes a father-son’s bond to be tested against the odds. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed. The Mayor’s office released a statement about the break-in at the property. The phrase "power lunch" can bring to mind a vision of stuffy and dated interiors, but I loved the leather turquoise chairs and black-and-white striped floor in Cecconi's dining room. They added a chic touch alongside the old-school chandeliers and dark wood paneling.

The movie opens on March 27, 1995, mere minutes before Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), the fashion house’s former head, is gunned down in Milan by an assassin hired by his vengeful ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga). Scott cuts away before the killing occurs, in a way that can’t help but echo the violence-anticipating prologue of “The Last Duel,” his recent movie about the travails of a 14th-century Frenchwoman. Here, hundreds of years later, is another moment of calm before the storm and also another story of a woman caught up in an overbearingly male world of power and intrigue.
